A piquant thought on Therapy and Suicide

Not mine but it’s worth sharing for the laugh. And for the truth.

“If the patient says, ‘I am going to kill myself,’ the therapist might reply, ‘I thought you agreed not to drop out of therapy.’ ” – Marsha M. Linehan

The above was an excerpt from her book, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Borderline Personality Disorder, which I learned of from an article in Time Magazine. The following paragraph is from that article, as well:

“Linehan, who grew up in Tulsa, Okla., and spent several years as a nun before becoming a psychologist, embodies several dialectical contradictions: a nun who has never lived in a convent; a careful scientist whose most engaging feature is her wry irreverence; a 65-year-old who has a maternal steeliness but was never a mother. It doesn’t pay to underestimate Marsha Linehan.”

Hell in a Handbasket

This post is mainly an excuse to put up a nifty pic or two of Sam Winchester aka Jared Padalecki in some alternate plane of existence. Don’t judge me, lest you be judged, ha!

Well, blogger’s gonna kill me if I make too many pic only posts so here’s the man, Dan Payne, who’ll be starring as Divine! Divine: The Series

And lovely ladies who shall be in this epic adventure! Chasty Ballesteros and Lisa Marie Caruk

Y mas!

More Divine Madness!

AKA Excuse for pictures and more Divine: The Series META!

Misha Collins ~ Bad Things

The above is remarkable! Really professional looking and a gorgeous tribute to the guy’s career so far. All this good person/theatrical stuff aside, I’d still be pretty tickled just because of his devotion to NPR. I’ve always been a listener and for about half my life have volunteered as a DJ at our little Raven station up here.

And now, I wanted to expand the hell a bit. I’ve never seen The Beautiful Life as I don’t watch TV much and got rid of cable awhile back. I peeked at some photos, though and found a couple of Ben Hollingsworth that go from the adorable to the asdfjkl.

Don’t look if you’ve got heart problems:

Where You Get Love by Matthew Sweet

Where You Get Love by Matthew Sweet

This is one of my favourite of the favorites. I mostly posting this here so I can justify to myself removing the song lyrics from a signature I have at Divine: The Series. (Go gratuitous mentions for widecasting and META tags!)

The audio quality’s not the best but it has a little blurb from the ancient MTV show 120 minutes with Matthew Sweet where he talks about his songwriting. For those who don’t know, he has Bipolar Disorder which he’s said was untreated for a long time. The song itself starts at about 00:23.

Where does Supernatural come into this? Read the lyrics and decide for yourself. 🙂

Where You Get Love

Instead of running
Stay and keep it coming
You’re getting your kicks right at the source
You’re taking your guidance from the force

But where do you get love
Down below or from somewhere above
Got a scary feeling I know
Where you get love

Am I the whore
You’re working for
Im here if you want to keep me near
Much further away than I appear

Where do you get love
Down below or from somewhere above
Got a scary feeling I know
Where you get love

Instead of running
Stay and keep it coming
Stay and keep it coming
Stay and keep it coming

Where do you get love
Down below or from somewhere above
Got a scary feeling I know
Where do you get love
Where do you get love
Down below or from somewhere above
Got a scary feeling I know
Where do you get love
Where do you get love

Briefly.

Just wanted to mention I’m working on another story while getting my epic Supernatural novel exorcised. That project is inspired directly by actual real people with one being heavily fictionalized and the other merely adapted to my story. There will be guitars and hallucinations involved.

I’m also currently dismayed at having to organize my freaking YouTube favourites (trying to be Canadian friendly); when did they become Legion?! This is why I’m never making a Tumblr account — it becomes an insidious, time-sucking swoon that’s hard to wake from. My, I’m feeling a little drama-ridden today, aren’t I?

Ta ta for now!

Creativity, come back to me! Rank begging on behalf of Divine: The Series.

I said this over at my neglected Facebook doohickey and I say it here again: Just be happy I don’t hit y’all up when Public Radio fund drive time comes around twice a year! The only way this show and these people could be more meaningful to me is if I were Catholic instead of (lapsed) Orthodox. I’ll be ignoring any paradoxes implicit there as my dad was an Ortho-priest, never mind any comments from my mental commentator booth.

Patrick Sauriol, the Patron Saint of Marketing at DIVINE: THE SERIES, has issued a challenge to faithful to help get another $16,500 for a nice even $30,000 at Kickstarter to fund more episodes. Maybe it’s that I still have pockets of need for redemption in my agnostic heart or because Misha Collins ran 83km or that I’ve just come to adore a good, funny, gorefest watching Supernatural: I’m inspired by this to share a bit more of whatever I am in Divine’s name. Being tapped out myself, I am appealing to the small portion of the world that will see this. Take part and help get excellent, innovative storytelling on the Web instead of the same old same old.

Also, if you have some extra funds, please visit Random Acts and support them. They do many clever, unexpected things in splendid ways.

The Path of the Angels

It’s a tad creepy how Google has invaded my life over the past fifteen years. From my Ubergeeky MUD implentor friend saying it was the best search engine out there, to my constant use, to the main email, and, now, to the Blog of Ages. My hope is they cleave to the path of the angels instead of veering onto (yes, you know what’s coming) the highway to hell. Google(tm) has already fallen a time or two but I can get stupid with forgiveness.

So! This post is running away from me as it’s only beginning. I wanted to explain myself a little, always an iffy process most especially when caffeine has not been consumed yet. My username was assembled/metamorphosed over time from my first name, my father’s nickname for me when he was miffed (regularly, then), a couple of my online presences from gaming, and my last two initials. I don’t usually care for self-given nicknames but I think this one has enough organic history to let it slide.

For the present (and who doesn’t like presents?) I’ll be sticking up a link to my other blog as Maria @ at Open Salon. I like the few people I’ve exchanged comments with so don’t want to give it up yet. I may update this one more frequently for ease of use and ease of just getting the fool site to load.

Time to do a little spelunking! I’ll leave you with an annoying mantra I seem to be assembling in my declining years: Gratefully Think, Randomly Act, Constantly Care.

Divine: The Series

Divine: The Series, or, Introductions are for the Week.

Здравствулте and heylas,

I mean as in Next Week; not a snarky typo. I thought I’d smash this new ship with a post of a repost of yet another repost from an exciting new web series’ site. Divine: The Series! Thanks for your perusal and hope to type at you very soon. 🙂

I wanted to post something about a new web series that will begin showing this summer, I believe. The show is called, “Divine: The Series” and there’s already been some rumblings on the web and on ubiqui-Twitter, @DivineTheSeries.  I don’t want to say too much about who’s in it because the final cast list hasn’t been published. If you like Supernatural, theological/metaphysical horror, or web series productions like The Guild you may like this, too.

The following is something I posted on the Divine blog. I hope it helps spark interest even if it’s because you hate what I wrote. ~

Question was Theories and speculations about the show.

Seeing as how the priest witnesses Divine going from ground beef back to living person, I’m thinking the series will include a much deeper exploration of a theme visited several times in Supernatural: It’s one thing to think you utterly believe in X, Y, Z and one hell of another to have X, 6^i, Zed, Pb happen directly to yourself.
(The Supernatural instances of priests being confronted with “absolute proof” of the metaphysical include the older priest who exorcises his murdered friend’s ghost, the poor bastard who was horrified to see the Apocalypse was gonna happen on his watch in War’s episode, and God’s true servant whom a certain angel announces himself to. Sorry, don’t feel like looking up episode #’s and such atm).

Along with the usual faith-destroying gore and pain lamentations of an uncaring God I think they’ll go to the lonely, sexy guy place. One of the glimpses of video I saw showed a late teens schoolgirl in one of those short uniform skirts running after the priest who was carrying Divine(? not sure but the guy looked bloody). I mean, it’s coming so let’s embrace that reality and admit it’ll be scary/interesting playing out on the wild and wooly Web (just no hardcore pedo stuff, please?). The character’s a Catholic priest, right? Orthodox priests wear the same shirts, pants, and collar but they can get married before their final vows is why I ask: It cuts the potential angst over heterosexual celibacy that Catholicism insists on clinging to. I hesitate to mention homosexual possibilities so no one gets too lost in sexy daydreams re: Priest/Divine. But, Hell, I said it anyway, go me! 😀

I think this “sexy” problem is why conventionally beautiful actors will happily de-prettify themselves, ala Charlize Theron in “Monster”; they want to be seen for the character, not the good looks that can interfere with the story or create false expectations/reactions in the audience. Misha looks gorgeous as a priest so I’m also wondering if he’s going to get physically scarred up (along with mentally) as part of the series.

Short list of hopes to end with: Ecumenical huddles of various Christian flavors while old barriers/prejudices fall; interweaving of Science’s numinous potential without Creationism’s foul stench; exploration of Eastern Mysticism/Religions influences on Christianity; Christendom’s mythic influences/origins (like the Isis/Horus vs Mary/Jesus thing); and more.

Geez, I meant to only write a couple few lines and there I went. See? I’m really looking forward to this!
